A beloved icon for decades, this microbus, beautifully revived for 2024, has been updated with modern touches through and through. Design details/in and out!
When it comes to the new and exciting designs of this ID Buzz, fun is at the core — as are surprises at every angle! For example, smiling faces — yes smiling faces — are found in pockets in the cargo areas as well as on the plastic shrouds on the sliding rear seats. What’s not to love? The design of this 2024 model pays homage to VW’s iconic Type 2 Microbus, also known as the VW Bus, which inspired the retro design and nostalgic exterior of this new model. The uniquely nostalgic exterior aesthetic that is found here and revamped and redesigned includes a two-toned look with a light strip that illuminates around the vehicle. The result is a unique visual signature. LED headlights boast hexagonal segments that act as “eyes” to communicate the microbus’ status with near-zero body overhangs and 22-inch wheels creating a modern look. Rectangular windows, a hint of a windshield sunshade and rear side air vents speak to the original, iconic design.
Flexibility is brought forth through the use of many defining details on the ID. Buzz’s cavernous and configurable interior, which seats five. That is made clear with front seats that feature adjustable arm rests, as well as handy tables that fold out of the backrests for your rear-seat passengers. A removable center console is also found within between the two front seats. To allow for ample space, an adjustable load floor can be fitted in the cargo area. Among the vehicle’s show-stopping features are a 10-inc digital gauge cluster, which comes standard, as well as customizable ambient lighting and a set of massaging front seats as top options.

Riding on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform, the ID Buzz is presented with ample power and top performance thanks to its electric motor. A base model featuring a single, rear-mounted electric motor that makes 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque will be offered in America. Eventually, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration with about 295 horsepower will join the line up.
While much is still unknown about the battery pack used in the U.S. model, it is expected to be larger than the 77-kWh pack that powers the European model. The new ID. Buzz will boast at least 260 miles of range per charge with a fast charger allowing it to jump from 5 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
Stay connected!
Easily stay connected and experience the latest in technology on that next road trip! The microbus’ infotainment system operates mainly through a touchscreen that is located right in the middle of the dashboard. From the 10.0 inch standard screen (12.0-inch is optional), access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, a subscription-based WiFi hotspot and wireless device charging is expected to be offered!

When it comes to the colors offered, prepare for a spectrum like no other! Drivers get their choice of 11 color variants, including seven single-color options like “Candy White,” “Lime Yellow,” “Starlight Blue,” “Leaf Green” and more. There are also two-tone options. Exterior mirrors and door handles are also finished in these exciting colors!
What else we know!
The ID. Buzz will come in two styles, the regular passenger ID. Buzz and a cargo version for commercial customers.
The ID. Buzz measures 185.5 inches long with a 117.6-inch wheelbase, and is 78.1 inches wide. For comparison, it is just 0.6 inches shorter than the Tiguan!
America will receive only the premium long-wheelbase passenger model.
