Refreshed — renewed — Getta Jetta boost!

A more powerful engine is not all that is new with the 2022 seventh-generation Volkswagen Jetta. Drivers will also enjoy a reworked styling, more standard equipment, better technology, a new Sport trim and more. This vehicle gets refreshed and renewed in the new year, still holding fast as one of the most popular consumer choices as well as being the pure definition of affordable German engineering.  A proven leader with compelling value, the Jetta brings forth sportiness, style and new key features for 2022. See what’s in store!

Here’s more…

Exterior changes
The Jetta on the outside will receive a style update for 2022, with new front and rear bumpers, new colors and new wheels. A revised front end is presented with a new front bumper that boasts a new grille with two distinctive chrome bars flanking the VW logo. On the GLI, a red accent strip sits between the bars, and the lower front fascia includes the legacy honeycomb detail. The exterior is rounded out with LED headlights and daytime running lights as standard with top trim Jetta models presented with projector LEDs.

Chrome window trim is standard, with the Jetta retaining a strong character line carrying from the front fender though to the standard LED taillights. The 2022 Jetta also features new rear bumpers, and will be presented in seven cool exterior hues. Those include the new Kings Red Metallic, Onyx White Metallic and Rising Blue Metallic, among others.

A look inside
The interior of the all-new Jetta features design updates and upgraded technology. New rhombus cloth seats are standard as well as contrast stitching throughout the cockpit. Ambient lighting runs across the dash and doors with surfaces including leather and leatherette. The latter is available in a new Volcano Brown and a black two-tone palette. Drivers will also enjoy the feeling of a leatherette wrapped steering wheel, with heating available on higher trims. There are also heated front and rear seats, power driver seat, Climatronic automatic climate control and keyless access. Other available features include a sunroof, BeatsAudio premium sound and 10-color ambient lighting.

Standard with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument cluster is an 8-inch display with a 10-inch available on upper trims. Standard is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Power packed!
VW moved ahead for 2022 with a larger 1.5-liter unit, which debuted in the Taos, retiring Jetta’s prior 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This new engine makes 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, much of that coming from the low end. This results in 10 horses more than the old engine, although torque remains the same. Transmission also carries over, with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The Jetta will undoubtedly crank out more low-end twist thanks to the upsized engine which has higher direct-injection pressure, plasma-coated cylinder bores, a variable-geometry turbocharger and intelligent cooling that helps warm things up quicker.

The 2022 Jetta GLI continues to rely on a 228-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, with those horses channeled to the front wheels by way of a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Tech savvy
The updated Jetta has plenty of driver-assistance tech, sure to make each and every journey one that is pleasurable, safe and easy! The base cars come standard with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Offered from the base Jetta on up, there are also a vast amount of amenities with VW’s IQ Drive suite. Those include emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-sport monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, plus more!

Value leader
Although costs have not yet been announced for the 2022 model, expected to be presented the fourth quarter of this year, the outgoing Jetta was surely a bargain at around $20,000, including destination charges. The updated model is expected to be roughly in line with that. This vehicle is still value-oriented and a torchbearer for the VW brand for over four decades.

New trim unveiled
Among the four trim levels offered for 2022, the Jetta will be presented with an all-new Sport trim, which features enthusiast-inspired content at the top value when it comes to price point. Standard with this trim is the XDS electronic differential lock and dark graphite 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. There is also a blacked out grille, black mirror caps and window trim, as well as a black headliner and unique cloth sport seats. This new trim replaces the previous year’s R-Line trim, and is placed just above the base S trim resulting in maximum accessibility. This sporty look is sure to please!

Overall, this all-new Jetta for 2022 is a refresh that takes the strengths of past generations — and builds upon them! That includes better fuel economy, a more spacious interior, better technology and more access to driver assistance features that buyers are seeking. A new Sport trim also provides the sporty appearance at a value-oriented cost. This small sedan with its unique bodywork, powerful engine and reworked styling is your perfect fit for 2022.
