The roll out!

A unique family of Volkswagen EVs for the U.S. market are all the buzz, recently on display together at the Amelia as part of a roll out that is nothing short of amazing! The ID.4 SUV, the ID.7 sedan and the ID.Buzz Microbus represent a full range of offerings from the beloved automaker, as well as some of the best-selling vehicles on the market.

In addition to the three-vehicle display, the electric vehicle presentation also showcased the ID.7 and the three-row ID. Buzz. And as part of VW’s celebration of 75 years in America and giving a nod to the past, a 1987 twin-engine Pikes Peak Golf appeared at RADwood and on the Amelia Concours lawn.

Here’s more…

In the area of accolades, the ID.4 held the title of the fifth best-selling EV in the United States last year, with the ID.7 and ID.Buzz due to go on sale later this year.

With pride, this signature mix of heritage and innovative electric vehicles has been revealed and celebrated. According to Mark Giles, director of Public Relation and Reputation, Volkswagen Group of America, “The enthusiasm we saw for our EVs this week, particularly the ID.Buzz, reinforces our view that EVs will only become more popular, with buyers in America as a more varied fleet of vehicles hits the market.

“This praise is especially relevant in light of the 75-year anniversary of VW being in America, “and the twin-engine Pikes Peak Golf was a reminder of our heritage in motorsport in this country over that timespan.”

In what is a regular feature at Concours, the Electric Vehicle Presentation showcased both current and upcoming EV models across the main concours staging area. VW’s three-row ID.Buzz and the ID.7 sedan took their place among other traditional car brands and startups.

Considered the top of the range and a hero in that regard, the ID.7 for 2025 is a large, luxurious sedan boasting a premium upscale cabin and is the first VW to be launched with an augmented Head-up Display as standard. This relays such vital information as speed, lane markings, distance warnings and turn arrows. A cutting-edge air conditioning system is also found within, as well as active electronic control of those air vents. A standard 30-color ambient lighting that perfectly illuminates the cabin and features decorative elements on the dash and panel is also a key feature.

Available in 282-hp rear and 335-hp all-wheel-drive, it also features a wide range of high-tech benefits. That includes a large, 15-inch infotainment screen, the standard augmented reality

Head-up Display, an electro-chromic sunroof that can switch between opaque and transparent via through control and an enhanced voice assistant.

Its exterior design is rooted in flowing and muscular lines, with a front end presented in a three-dimensional design on the hood with LED headlights and their narrow LED strip for the daytime running lights.

Particularly interesting in this vehicle’s silhouette is the character line that is found below the long window shoulder, creating a powerful and positive tension on the vehicle’s side. Spaciousness is found within, with plenty of headroom in this model that has been designed from scratch and which features a clearly structured, horizontal dash panel. This vehicle, which is chock full of so much to offer, including new seat Climatronic and premium massage function, is poised to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.

Another brand leader, the 2025 ID.Buzz is a cool and sharp reincarnation of the ever-popular, classic Microbus, yet reimagined for what is surely to be an electric future. This vehicle, which boasts a cavernous and configurable interior, is nearly 10 inches longer than the original European model, with the U.S. version of the ID.Buzz featuring three rows of seats to accommodate six or seven passengers, along with ample room for both people and luggage. The U.S. version features three rows of seats with space for seven riders, as well as a pair of second-row captain’s chairs. Available with rear or all-wheel-drive, it comes with a 91-kW battery, which is the largest one on offer in a U.S. Volkswagen EV.

The ID. Buzz also offers striking lighting signatures, including a giant illuminated logo on the front and also boasts an array of striking two-tone paint schemes. Standard features within include a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, sliding second-row windows and 3D color ambient lighting. There are also available add ons like a Head Up Display, an electrochronic panoramic sunroof and remote parking.

This model is expected to go on sale later this year.

When it comes to the ID.4, a strong reputation is realized, and that has been the case since the vehicle went on sale in the U.S. as a 2021 model. Its praise originates from what is a combination of EV technology, design and affordability. For 2024, the model featured an 82 kWh battery, which receives significant upgrades, including a revised infotainment system and software, a new rear electric motor that increases power to 282-hp on rear-wheel and 335-hp on all-wheel-drive models, as well as an improved range of up to 291 miles on the ID.4 Pro RWD model.

Making its presence known at the Amelia is also the twin-engine 1987 Golf, which two years prior to its launch in 1985, VW built a wild twin-engine Golf racer that earned third place at Pikes Peak. It returned two years later with a second twin-engine Golf built with a helping hand from Kaimann Racing. Power was realized from front- and rear-mounted 1.8-liter 16-valve GTI

engines, which made a combined output of about 640 hp, with the car driven in front, rear, or all-wheel drive form.
