The GLI is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Standard is a six-speed manual transmission, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic presented as an option. Regardless of transmission, this new GLI has an acceleration that is significantly faster compared with the Jetta’s standard 158-hp engine. Impressively, this vehicle hits 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds ahead of a similarly-equipped Honda Civic Si.
In terms of handling, the new Jetta possesses smooth steering — conquering any curve — strong brakes and a compliant ride through and through. DCC adaptive chassis control offers three varied settings of suspension firmness, while the VAQ limited-slip front differential lock helps to eliminate understeer by proactively making adjustments to help maintain optimum torque balance.

Those models equipped with the optional seven-speed automatic can expect to experience 26 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, according to government ratings.
