The measure of success is found here, both in a completely new look, featuring digitalization within as well as an advanced powertrain, resulting in a driving experiencing that is at a whole new level.

Here’s more

All-new exterior

A completely new front end is featured for 2022, including a new grille which flows into the standard LED headlights but at a wider stance. The result forges a clear visual link between the Tiguan and the Atlas Cross Sport. The all-new Volkswagen badge positioned centrally in the front and eye-catching bumpers are also part of the new exterior look. At the vehicle’s rear, the Tiguan lettering is positioned in a conspicuous central location right below the VW badge. Also redesigned is the “4Motion” lettering in the all-wheel-drive models, with an updated hands-free Easy Open and Close for the power lift gage available on midrange models. Exterior changes are also found in the new wheel designs which are presented for every trim line. Also, for 2022, the model will be sold with a more spacious long wheel base, adding to the distinct styling linked to the brand.

LED headlights and taillights are also now standard across the model line, making this new look all the rage and the preferred choice.

Interior digitalized

With its new model, Volkswagen has added a digital version of the new multifunction steering wheel, featuring illuminated touch islands and sliders. Standard heated seats are part of the new model, with their temperature, along with climate control, adjusted via touch sliders. The new Tiguan also come equipped with the MIB3 infotainment system with a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, though a 10.3-inch screen is standard on the higher trim levels. Also inside, a 15-color ambient light system comes standard on all trims, as does a Fender audio system.

Three rows of seating on front-drive models is found within the new model, similar to the current Tiguan. The third row undoubtedly gives an edge over the two-row competitors, although the setup cuts into Tiguan’s cargo capacity.

The inside for 2022 is also presented with newly designed trimmings, which are all variations of silver and gray as well as the new Noisette (brown) and Cinnamon (light beige) seat colors.

Safety first/driver assist

Advanced driver-assist systems come standard on all 2022 models, regardless of its passenger-carrying capacity. Those systems include lane-keeping assist, lane centering and adaptive cruise control. And unlike other models, the 2022 model makes these features available throughout the line. To that end, all of the items are standard on all but the base S trim, which offers the tech as an optional extra. Also with this new model year, the Tiguan takes assisted driving even one step further, with available travel assist. This cutting-edge system can take over steering, braking and acceleration at speeds between 0-130 mph. To accomplish this, the system uses functions including Adaptive Cruise Control and the Lane Assist lane keeping system, both available in an Advanced Driver-Assistance Package on base models or standard on midrange models. To activate the system, the driver simply presses the separate Travel Assist button on the new multifunction steering wheel. Touch detection proves a great deal more reliable than steering angle-based systems.

Top trims boast the latest generation of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) which proactively and effortlessly takes into account local speed limit information, town boundary signs, junctions and roundabouts. The assist system functions by using the signals from the front camera and the GPA and map data from the navigation system for control.

Under hood

Under the hood of each and every 2022 Tiguan is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque on tap at just 1,600 rpm. Front-wheel-drive is standard with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive presented as an option. This smooth, willing engine results in a sporty, fun-to-drive SUV, which also offers a well-coordinated 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine also brings forth a taut ride, athletic handling and responsive steering. In the area of fuel-economy, this engine is expected to result in similar EPA fuel economy estimates mirroring the 2020 model, which earned impressive ratings as high as 29 mpg highway.

Get connected!

Infotainment is not only presented in a sleek and stylish way in the new Tiguan with touch buttons integrated in a large glass screen, but it is the latest and most advanced. The system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as it does with a Wi-Fi hotspot. A 480-watt  nine-speaker Fender audio system is also presented, but only in upper trims.
