The 2021 VW ID.4

“HELLO ID”

All-electric has never looked — or felt — this good! The 2021 VW ID.4 is here and this SUV is sure to change the way you think about electric vehicles. From a roomy comfort-packed cabin to a design package that turns heads on the open road, this VW is smarter, more functional and cooler than ever!  Volkswagen of Akron located on west exchange street in Akron Ohio understands their commitment to success. Its range is impressive to boot and it is what the electric future is all about!  Similar to the VW specials in Akron, Volkswagen of Akron wants to peak your interest in a new vehicle.See what is in store for you and reserve yours today!

Performance plus! While all-wheel-drive models will eventually be part of the lineup, the initial launch will be the single-motor rear-wheel drive model. This rear-mounted motor makes 201 horsepower while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive makes an impressive 302. Thanks to regenerative braking, drivers can recapture energy when slowing down. The ID.4 also has a towing capacity of 2,700 pounds.

In the area of range, the ID.4 has an 82 kWh battery that is capable of powering the SUV up to a whopping 250 miles between charges. That designation alone puts the ID.4 right alongside other electric SUVs including the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Kia Niro EV. Also, VW has assured that the ID.4 will come with three years of free charging from Electrify America, which continues to expand its network. When stopped at these stations, the ID.4 can accept DC fast charging up to 125 kW with the vehicle’s state of charge going from 5 to 80 percent in about 38 minutes while connected to one of these stations.

The 2021 VW ID.4

All-electric has never looked — or felt — this good!

Design within. A contemporary design is made clear within the ID.4 with a retractable steering wheel, high-tech features, soft ambient lighting and ample cargo space. Less flashy than the ID Crozz Concept’s cabin, the interior will also feature touch-sensitive buttons and surfaces or via voice control instead of physical buttons. Designed with all of its passengers in mind, not just the driver, the ID.4 boasts over 3 ft of leg room for four and 64.2 cu ft of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. This space is all due to the MEB platform.

Inside a minimalist setting overall is found. An instrument cluster is fully digital and features a 5.3-inch display controlled by the buttons on the steering wheel. Located to the right of the driver’s display is a standard 10.0-inch touchscreen setup called Discover Pro that house the latest infotainment system.

Other touch sensitive buttons regulate volume, HVAC, climate control, parking assist features and more.

Another unique and interesting design element inside is an ID Light, which is a light bar nestled in the dashboard near the windscreen that provides visual cues to the driver and passenger. The light has the ability to change color when the car locks or unlocks, signal to the left or right to preview an upcoming navigation instruction or turn and also acts as a charge-status indicator.

Striking exterior. The  exterior is marked by clean lines and aerodynamic elements that result in a striking silhouette. This SUV does not make you sacrifice form for function!

Thanks to the modular MEB electric drive platform, a long wheelbase is to be had. Shorter than the three-row Tiguan, the ID.4 will feature less pronounced front air vents and LED light bars that connect both the head and taillights. The body showcases some curves, particularly around the rear doors and over the rear wheels. Taillights expand into a full-width rear lighting panel. The design overall of this two-row crossover will follow a traditional shape.

Exterior hues run the gamut with VW offering the ID.4 in six colors. Those include Glacier White Metallic, Mythos Black Metallic, Moonstone Grey, Scale Silver Metallic, Blue Dusk Metallic and King’s Red Metallic. All will come with a body-color roof, 19-inch wheels and black roof rails. That is unless the Gradient Package is chosen.

How it compares… The ID.4 is most closely related in the VW lineup to the Tiguan, although the ID.4 is 4.6 inches shorter but has a nearly identical wheelbase, 0.9 inches shorter at 108.9 inches. At 64.4 inches high, the ID.4 is almost 2 inches lower in rear-wheel-drive form than the Tiguan and a half-inch wider. VW describes the ID.4 has being squarely in the middle of the compact-SUV segment. Competitors beyond the Kia Niro EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric include the Toyota RAV4 Prime and the Mazda CX-5.

It is slightly bigger than the ID.3, and also sits a bit higher off the ground and has a sleeker body. It will be available in two versions, an SUV and coupe-like style.

Types/prices. A rear-drive ID.4 Pro model begins at $39,995, while an ID.4 AWD Pro Model will launch at a price tag of $43,695. Both of these prices are prior to a potential federal tax credit of $7,500. At launch, there are two options for the ID.4 Pro, a Statement Package and a Gradient Package.

A Statement Package, which costs $4,500, is presented with a panoramic glass roof, LED projected headlights, power-folding side mirrors, an illuminated VW badge on the front of the car and the LED light bar that connects the two headlights. A Gradient Package, which can only be had if the Statement Package is also specified, is offered with the addition of 20-inch wheels, a black roof an silver roof rails. It costs an extra $1,500.

From a roomy comfort-packed cabin to a design package that turns heads on the open road, this VW is smarter, more functional and cooler than ever!

VW will offer a limited run of ID.4 1st Editions which feature both the Statement and Gradient packages, along with some special and unique 1st Edition badging, black mirror caps and gas and brake pedals with play and pause logos on them. That version of the ID.4, which also features a tow hitch and contrast mirror caps, comes with a $43,995 price tag. In 2022, when all the 1st Editions are gone, VW will begin building it at the United States plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., and will lower the base price of the car to about $35,000.

Tech savvy. All versions of the ID.4 boast the 5.3-inch ID Cockpit. This digital dash cluster uses three frames in the display to show speed, driver assistance information and navigation. Drivers have a choice to opt for all three or just two of the three, with the speedometer always available. The gearshift is located to the right and attached to the display. Drivers can twist it forward to go forward or back to reverse. A button on the side places it in park.

The infotainment system is housed in a 10.0-inch or optional 12.-0 inch touchscreen on the dash. It includes the typical controls for navigation, media and phones, with VW also adding a voice assistant that begins with “Hello ID.” The vehicle’s routing includes the option for adding charging points along a path.

From roominess to a striking presence on the road and everything in between, the ID.4 is not only a sight to behold but will provide the mobility that can change your life. This all-electric SUV is functional, fun to drive and looks as good as it feels! It is (well) worth the wait so reserve yours today! Don’t fill your tank. Charge your battery! Say Hello to your ID!
