The big reveal….

See how driver connection is made perfectly clear….

With the eighth-generation all new 2020 Volkswagen Golf MK8, drivers will not only experience a plethora of choices and options with this hatchback, but one that is packaged in an all-out progressive, revolutionary and oh-so-bold design. The new Golf is presented with a wealth of power options, cutting-edge technology and a sleeker bodywork. Right down to the smallest detail, there is so much to love about this vehicle.

It’s got the look — plus bold technology…

While the front end is instantly recognizable, the new MK8 shows differences, with features like the new headlights that boast an extended eyelash brought forth in a slimmer design. Stylish daytime running lights are also presented, and in between, a revised grille that appears smaller than before boasts a prominent Volkswagen logo. As if this distinctive styling cue was not enough, move to the rear end where a sharper, more upscale feel is realized. The new version has adopted sleeker bodywork, a more pronounced shoulder line and a dynamic character line which now cuts through the door handles.

A new lift gate is found in back, with revised lighting units and a more rakish rear window. An evolutionary bumper rounds out this look as well as a faux dual exhaust system.

Its interior is not full of buttons, gauges and the like, but instead, gives a big nod to the future with most of the interior functions super digital and coming in the form of a touchscreen that is easily accessible to both the driver and front-row passenger. The dashboard is also new with a stepped design coupled with illuminated accents on the passenger side. The eight-generation is also found with more slender air vents, metallic accents and new switchgear.

The vehicle’s cutting-edge technology is also made clear in interior features including an optional Head-Up Display that keeps drivers well informed of any road conditions, including transmitting    information on signage, hazards, and other important details when out on the open road. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 8.25-inch infotainment system display is also available, as is a 10-inch infotainment screen. Those drivers with compatible Samsung smartphones can set them up handily as the vehicle’s key. Just a wave of the phone near the door allows it to unlock and putting the phone in the center console is all that is needed to get the engine started! Furthermore the center console is characterized with perfect ergonomics, more tidy than ever, and even the roof console is digitalized.

This digital cockpit and a multifunction steering wheel creates a consistently digital architecture that makes every trip one rooted in comfort and ease of navigation. The driver’s digital world is enhanced through and through with this new Golf with light and vision functions redesigned and more intuitive to operate.

Three different LED headlight versions are offered, with the Golf’s top specification package featuring 17 inch alloy wheels, additional exterior chrome scopes, sports seating front with center seat panels, a leather steering wheel and leather gear knob as well as exterior background lighting in over 30 colors. Speaking of LED lights, the MK8’s are slimmer than the ones on the current model and set on either side of the grille. They get VW’s family ‘W’ shaped daytime runnings, and below them are the new lower bumper design that coasts through the air ever-so-slightly better than the old model.

New body creases on the side make this new model look fresh.

Powertrain options abound….

Volkswagen will present the new Golf with 10 powertrain options, half of which are hybrids that feature modern 48-volt electrical systems. Three eTSI mild hybrids will join a pair of plug-in (PHEV) options, the latter of which will boast the capability of traveling up to 37 miles on electric power alone through the use of 13-kilowatt-hour batteries. Packed with power, these PHEVs feature a 201-horsepower base and 242 on the GTE sport hybrid.

There are also two tunes of a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder gasoline-fueled engine making 89 hp (66 kW) and 109 hp (81kW) and two versions of a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder offering 114 hp (85 kW) and 148 hp (110 kW). The diesel-fueled, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine comes in versions producing 114 hp (85 kW) and 148 hp (110 kW).

Pure combustion powertrains will continue to be available in TSI, TGI and TDI configurations.

Driver in mind…

With the MK8, motorists will see the benefits of driver-assistance technology that can handle it all! That includes the steering, brake and acceleration on highways at speeds up to 131 miles per hour (210 kilometers per hour). This vehicle can also take advantage of Car2X communications which allow it to trade information with other vehicles and roadside infrastructure within a 2,625-foot (800-meter) radius.

Drivers also have the first-ever opportunity to add features to their vehicle after purchasing it. Thanks to the We Upgrade program, car buyers can add such things as adaptive cruise control, Light Assist headlight controls, navigation, smartphone app integration and Wi-Fi hotspot even after taking delivery of the vehicle!

Size matters

The new Golf has an overall footprint that has grown slightly than previous gen’s with a total length of 168.7 inches (4,284 millimeters). That is compared to the previous 167.6 inches (4,258 mm) for the existing model. The width of the new model has decreased slightly to 70.43 inches (1,789 mm) as compared to the seventh generation at 70.8 inches (1,799 mm). Wheelbase remains identical at 103.8 inches (2,636 mm). The current measures at 2,637 mm.

Dramatically different from any Golf models to come before it, see what the 2020 MK8 has to offer. Never before has driver connection been this evident, making this reveal certainly all the rage. Semi-autonomous driving functionality, a sharper design and technology that is second to none, this hatchback may be the most famous on the market. Reap the benefits of this new look and await the big reveal!
