Restaurants in Akron, OHIf you’re constantly in search of the ultimate meat patty between two slices of bread, Akron has you covered. With hundreds of restaurants that all claim to have the best burger, sifting through all your options isn’t always easy. Fortunately, this list helps narrow your search. From fancy gourmet burgers to classic, no-frills options, Akron has just what you need to satisfy your cravings for a burger.

Swensons Drive In

Since 1934, Swensons Drive In has been a favorite among locals in Akron. To sustain yourself for over 80 years, you have to possess a product that keeps people coming through the doors, and that’s just what you’ll get here. The Original Galley Boy is the hamburger of choice here, offering two patties, cheese, and two secret sauces that blend harmoniously in your mouth. Plus, at just $3.65, it’s cheaper than nearly every other option in the city. Pair it with one of their 18 flavors of milkshakes, and you’re in for a true American treat.

Bob’s Hamburg

Another classic hamburger joint, Bob’s Hamburg has been serving up griddled perfection for over 85 years. It’s the oldest continuously running restaurant in the entire city, and as soon as you take a bite, you’ll understand why. However, it’s more than just the burger that makes a trip to Bob’s special. Everything operates just as it did when the doors first opened in 1931, with burgers being made constantly on the griddle by a frenzied cook and the smell of fresh cooked meat invading your nostrils.

The restaurant gets its beef fresh every day from a local butcher, and on a normal day, they’ll sell about 240 patties. According to owner Aimee Buckeye, they don’t use any seasoning of any kind, and instead they rely on the flavor that’s been sealed into the original grill from 1931. No one else can emulate the flavor that’s created from this grill, so you’ll just have to try one to see what the fuss is all about.

Arnie’s Public House

You don’t always head to the mall when you’re in search of a delicious burger, but Arnie’s Public House says otherwise. Located in the Westgate Shopping Center, Arnie’s won the coveted award for best burger during Akron’s National Hamburger Festival. This award-winning half-pound concoction comes topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, and a fried egg all atop a delicious toasted bun. You can also get the same formula in two smaller sliders, or add a few toppings such as pickles or American cheese to get the flavor you desire.

Metro Burger

Located in Akron’s Highland district, Metro Burger is a modern, hip burger joint that allows you to take the reins. They give you an order form, and you go to town with everything you want. Choose from 22 toppings, 16 sauces, four patty options, and even your choice of bun. When you put it altogether, it’s an awesome win for your taste buds.

Akron certainly has no shortage of burgers, and with different takes on the classic American staple, you’re in for a treat no matter where you go.
