Starting a 6 p.m. on December 31, this family-friendly affair takes place in numerous venues throughout the downtown. Featuring more than 70 artists playing music, making art, and showing off their skills, this event is ideal for children, and no alcohol is allowed at any of the events. Saving Christmas Escape Room

Escape rooms have become all the rage in cities throughout the country, challenging participants to solve a series of mysteries and gather clues to escape from a room. However, the Saving Christmas Escape Room in Akron is perhaps the only Christmas-themed escape room in the country. For just $22 for adults and $18 for kids ages 8 to 17, this escape room gives you one hour to find clues and escape the room, all while saving Christmas in the process. This event runs through January 15 at Locked In at the Lakes, and reservations are strongly recommended.

Reindeer Run Slide

If you’re searching for a kid-friendly activity that won’t take much time, head to the Reindeer Run Slide at Lock 3 in downtown Akron. For just $3, your child can head down a 150-foot polymer coated slide, picking up some serious speed along the way. The slide is specifically designed for children 14 and under, but parents are allowed to accompany smaller children on the slide.

Free Breakfast With Santa at Lock 3

Also taking place at Lock 3 on various weekends, the Free Breakfast With Santa is always a popular event. At $10 a person, it’s also a bargain considering you can fill your plate with pancakes and sausage to your heart’s content, while also getting as much orange juice, hot cocoa, and coffee as you can handle. The price of food also includes admission to the Akron Children’s Museum, a Reindeer Run Slide wristband for unlimited rides, or a round of Polar Putt-Putt. Make sure to bring a camera, as you’ll have plenty of time to take pictures with Santa.

Tour the Perkins Stone Mansion

Built in 1837, the Perkins Stone Mansion is one of the oldest and most beautiful homes in Akron. During the holiday season, volunteers and staff bring the home alive with holiday cheer including light displays, a Christmas tree, and other decor. Tours are just $6, but include a guide that will tell you about the history of the home.

With so many awesome, fun-filled events throughout Akron, you don’t have to look too far to find something that appeals to you. The hardest part just may be deciding where to go first.
