For 2017, Volkswagen discontinued the midlevel SE trim and the R-line trim and replaced them with the Wolfsburg Edition and the Sport model. Exterior Features

The base level S comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and heated mirrors. You’ll also get black roof rails to add to the look and give you more functionality when it comes to carrying gear. There are automatic headlights and automatic wipers, along with keyless ignition. The look of the Tiguan resembles the larger Touareg, but it has a lower ground clearance and shorter length.

The Engine

The S model Tiguan comes with the same engine available on all of the trims, which is one of its best assets. The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen pairs this peppy engine with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, but you can opt for all-wheel drive. The quick acceleration will get you to 60 miles per hour in just 7.5 seconds, which is quicker than many other compact crossovers.

The Technology

The S trim now comes standard with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display along with Bluetooth connectivity for your phone and audio. There is an eight-speaker sound system with an auxiliary audio jack so you can connect your device to play music. Other tech features include an HD radio, two SD card slots, and satellite radio. The S trim also comes with smartphone integration using VW’s Car-Net App-Connect system complete with Apply CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Mirror Link.

The Safety Features

Some of the standard safety features on the Tiguan S trim include antilock disc brakes and a rearview camera. There are several airbags including full-length side curtain airbags and side airbags for the front seat passengers.

The Interior Comfort

Inside the cabin of the Tiguan, you’ll find versatility and comfort. The front seats have a sporty design that is comfortable and supportive. There is plenty of headroom in both the front and the back, and the rear seat reclines for extra comfort. Another welcome extra is the sliding rear seat which allows you to make more room in the cargo space and bring the kids closer to the front. The rear seats also have a 60/40 split so you can customize the amount of cargo space, which maxes out at 56 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down.
