Board the bus!

The highly anticipated return of the VW Bus to North America, planned for delivery in 2024, is now a reality! The world premiere this month of the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase and seven-seat capabilities represents a comeback of sorts and features, among its many amenities, spaciousness and style, serving as an icon among electric vehicles. With panoramic sunroof and a new electric drive motor, boarding the “bus” has never been this fun!

Here’s more….

How it will be revealed!

The latest addition to the VW family, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase is made in Germany for Europe, as well as for Canada and the U.S. The big reveal will be, in perfect fashion, done as part of the largest VW Bus festival in the country. It will also be celebrated as a holiday dubbed “Volkswagen Bus Day,” a tour that will also continue in Germany with a European debut.

A look at its length!

As buses come, this ID. Buzz with Long Wheel Base is no different, boasting a length of 4,962 mm and up to seven seats. This makes it perfectly suited for its North American launch! The extra length is due in large part to the increase in the wheelbase by 250 mm, thus creating room for a third row of seats, providing up to 2,469 liters of storage space. The range is also lengthy thanks to a new and bigger 85 kWh battery.

How it’s powered!

The larger ID. Buzz will be presented with a new 210 kW (286 hp) electric drive motor, which serves to increase the maximum speed to the electronic limit of 160 km/h. This power translates into the Buzz reaching a speed of 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The news gets even better! — an all-wheel-drive version of this vehicle with an output of 250 kW (339 hp) has been promised for 2024. That model, the GTX, will reach 100 in just 6.4 seconds, making the bus perfectly suitable to merge on busy highways with ease and giving the ID. Buzz a welcome boost! This model will also feature new exterior colors and a dedicated interior. Larger alloy wheels, a more aggressive bodykit and sports seats are also expected!

A look inside!

Within the bus are numerous features, all of which speak to sleek and modern design elements. A head-up display, an upgraded infotainment system, clever storage, and remote parking via a smartphone are some examples. There is also a newly designed high-tech panoramic sunroof with smart glass, which can be adjusted from transparent to opaque using either a touch slider on the dashboard or easy voice commands. In fact, measuring 1.5 square meters, this represents the largest glass roof ever built by VW. Air conditioned seats boasting an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front are also presented. It is also expected that super fun interior color options are on tap as well! There is also a heated front seat, 10-color interior ambient lighting to add to whatever mood, a rear-view camera and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities! The interesting interior is also presented with loads of Easter eggs throughout the cabin, featuring smiley faces on the screw covers and embossed vans on the armrests.

The changes up close!

In comparing the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase to the standard model, much is to be noted! First, VW added an extra 250 mm to the electric MPV’s wheelbase, which has also allowed the automaker to get more cells within its battery pack. There is also a new heat pump that serves to improve efficiency in the winter!

What else we know!
