Events in Akron, OHFrom displays of artwork to eye-catching performances, there are plenty of interesting and exciting events to check out this May in Akron, Ohio. Here are just a few we think you’ll love.

Downtown Akron Artwalk

For a unique art experience, you won’t want to miss out on the annual Downtown Akron Artwalk. You’ll get to visit several galleries in the downtown area while admiring the many objects on display, including hand-blown glass, pottery, textiles, jewelry, paintings, and housewares, to name a few. You’ll have a chance to meet the artists during this event, and there are plenty of local destinations to shop and dine at once you’re done.

This event is free to the public, and a free trolley service will be offered that runs the entire gallery route. If you’re interested, the Downtown Akron Artwalk will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“The Wizard of Oz” Presented by the Ballet Theatre of Ohio

If you’re in town with the family, stop by the Akron Civic Theatre for a lovely rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” performed by the Ballet Theatre of Ohio. Taking place on May 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on May 7 at 2 p.m., this presentation will feature all of your favorite movie characters. Join in on the fun with Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Woodman, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Munchkins, and more as you travel to Emerald City. Everyone will enjoy the brightly colored costumes of the performers, the brilliant sets, and the fantastic special effects.

Tickets are available via the Akron Civic Box Office or Ticketmaster, and prices range from $26 to $38 depending on the theater section.

Oddmall: Emporium of the Weird Expo

This truly exciting event is guaranteed to impress every kind of visitor. It’s a hot spot for artists and creatives to showcase their artwork, crafts, books, comics, games, costumes, toys, antiques, jewelry, music, magic, and more! You’ll find a host of performers and special guests as well, including comic and game writers, illustrators, and TV and film celebrities. Last year’s show brought in over 240 vendors, and the 2017 expo is looking to match that.

You can see Oddmall: Emporium of the Weird will take place on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be held at the John S. Knight Center, and admission is free. However, a $5 donation is encouraged.

Free Thursdays at the Akron Art Museum

The Akron Art Museum is a great place to see some truly amazing artwork. Both in-house and online, you’ll find over 5,000 objects on display, including sculptures, paintings, photography, works on paper, and prints, on subjects such as landscapes, minimalism, impressionism, pop art, and local art. You can opt for a guided tour around the museum or explore the different galleries at your own pace. For a real treat this May, admission is free every Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
