1. Experience Amish Culture in Middlefield, Ohio

Travel an hour northeast of Akron to Middlefield, Ohio, which is home to a significant Amish population. When you arrive, visit Middlefield Cheese. This shop boasts an award-winning Swiss cheese that’s sure to delight cheese enthusiasts. You can also purchase a variety of specialty and gourmet foods such as jams, honey, and maple syrup. As you browse the merchandise, check out the antique equipment once used to make cheese and other historical artifacts.

2. Play and Relax in Aurora, Ohio

To get to Aurora, Ohio, you travel 30 minutes northeast of Akron. Once you arrive, you’ll discover a tranquil community where you can unwind. Book a relaxing massage on a heated table at Inn Walden’s renowned spa. For visitors who want to get active, there’s an excellent golf course in Aurora. Barrington Golf Club has a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course that welcomes golfers of all skill levels.

Try to squeeze in some time to shop for bargains at the Aurora Farms Outlets. The shopping area features stores for popular brands such as Nike, Toys R Us, Loft, Carter’s, and Coach.

3. Get Active at Tinkers Creek State Park

Located close to Aurora, Tinkers Creek State Park is slightly less than 30 minutes from Akron. It deserves its own mention as a day trip because you can easily spend five or six hours at this gorgeous property. The state park spans 355 acres, offering visitors the chance to see gorgeous flora and animals such as ducks, beavers, and herons. At the park, all the hiking trails are rated as easy.

With a valid license, you can fish for bluegill, crappie, and bass in the park’s 15-acre lake. If you visit the park in winter, you should still take your fishing tackle: ice fishing is a popular activity at Tinkers Creek. Pack your skis because the park is also an ideal spot for cross-country skiing.

4. Enjoy the Waterfront on Kelleys Island, Ohio

Even though it takes about two hours and 20 minutes to get to Kelleys Island, Ohio from Akron, you can still make a trip to this gorgeous spot in a day. Formed by glacial movement, the grooves on the island are an especially noteworthy sight.

The island measures four square miles and offers plenty of activities. Enjoy kayaking, do a beer tasting, or play mini golf. End your day be watching a breathtaking sunset on the island.
