While the Tiguan has seen few changes in 2023, due in large part to a thorough overhaul the year prior, there are still some new features this model year. That includes the SE R-Line Black trim receiving a new 19-inch wheel design and the Tiguan’s USB-C ports upgraded for the ability to have 45W charging.

Under hood!

When it comes to the power of the Tiguan for this year’s model, under hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 184 hp. Front-wheel-drive is standard with VW’s 4MOTION optional. This refers to the feature that distributes power between the front and rear wheels as needed to help optimize traction and stability when road conditions are not ideal. Within this feature are various drive modes that can be selected, including snow, on-road, off-road and off-road custom made.
But, overall, the Tiguan’s smooth engine results in a comfortable ride thanks in part to a well-coordinated automatic transmission. Far from fast, it is indeed sporty, though, providing drivers a fun ride overall. Also in the area of performance, brake-pedal action is soft, with the Tiguan delivering a 9.1-second 0-60 mph time, which is not considered to be overly impressive.

A peak inside/out!

The interior of the Tiguan is all things VW, and is considered functional although not too stylish. The model does boast seating for seven, which is unique in its class. Standard is cloth seating and partial power adjustment for the front seats. Those wanting a better version can opt for the full power adjustment for the driver as well as faux leather seating and a panoramic sunroof. There is an option for a third row, however that cuts considerably into space for hauling. However, with all seats folded, 19 carry-on boxes fit within.

This vehicle on the outside is marked by an understated elegance that is also impressive and stylish. With clean lines and a strong character, the outside speaks to confidence, including LED headlights and available integrated light bar at the front grille. Standard is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which allow for easy interface with smart phones. Also, a Wi-Fi hot spot is standard.
For those opting for a higher-level trim, a 480-watt nine-speaker Fender audio system is presented, with all models coming with either an 8.0-inch or 10.3-inch digital gauge display which have the features that allow for a display of a variety of key information.

Safety matters!

The Tiguan is undoubtedly a safe vehicle, boasting numerous, key features. Among them are forward-collision alert with automatic braking and a blind-spot warning system which come standard. There are extras, though, but they come at a cost. Those include lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Other key areas that speak to safety are the vehicle’s standard automated emergency braking with forward collision warning, available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist and available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode.

In the area of warranty, the Tiguan shortened what was previously considered the industry’s best bumper-to-bumper warranty at six years and 72,000 miles of coverage to four years or 50,000 miles. In addition, all new Volkswagens offer two years of regularly scheduled maintenance included at no charge. A powertrain warranty also covers four years or 50,000 miles.

Trim levels

Trims include the S, starting at $26,950, the SE at $30,580; the SE R-Line Black at $33,310, and the SEL R-Line, starting at $37,680.
There are added offerings as you move up the trim level of the Tiguan. For example, the mid-range SE trim adds 18-inch wheels, a power-operated rear lift gate, lane-keeping assist and the new semi-autonomous driving mode. On the SE is a panoramic sunroof that will set you back $1,200.
