What we know so far!

Planned is an extensive facelift in the 2026 model year, both on the interior and exterior, with the ID.4, Volkswagen’s only electric SUV, adopting the brand’s new look, which is similar to the upcoming entry-level ID.2. This represents the second major refresh for the ID.4, which already realized significant upgrades for the 2024 model year.

Similar to the ID.2 all concept, revealed for the first time in 2023, the new ID.4 will boast Volkswagen’s new design language, including an updated front end, a powerful stance and clean character lines. This new look is expected to feature a lower and squatter stance, which makes it more inline with the ID.2 family in terms of looks.

Despite past refreshes, this ID.4 will see changes on the interior as well, with its overhaul including a brand new dashboard. In addition, physical buttons are making a return.

“We are going to bring back a round knob for the volume control,” an insider shared via Autocar. “It has worked for years, (and) there’s no reason to replace it.”

We have already seen a sneak peak of this interior through the eyes of the ID.2all, which, after revealing the first interior images in 2023, Andres Mindt, VW Passenger Cars head designer, was quoted as stating: “The future of Volkswagen interiors has arrived in the ID.2all concept car.”

In addition to the interior and exterior refresh, the new ID.4 is expected to arrive with increased range and performance, as VW works to advance new electric motors, batteries and other EV technologies. Receiving the new look first is the ID.3 in the second half of 2026 with the ID.4 to follow later in the year.

In addition, VW will introduce the production version of the ID.2, representing the kick off of a new series of entry-level EVs. An SUV version of the ID.2 and a smaller, lower-cost ID.1 will join the lineup shortly thereafter.

Those wishing to park the ID.4 in their garage will pay in the U.S. a starting price of $45,095 with the vehicle having an EPA-estimated range of 291 miles. In Europe, the price begins at around $41,000 with a WLTP range of up to 342 miles.

Attractively priced and with a competitive range and ample cargo space, the ID.4 is all things great in this 2026 model year. In fact, a better electric SUV is surely to be found here, with a boost of power that is also very welcome. The ID.4 is part of the ever-growing compact electric SUV segment, with competitors like Hyundai and its Ioniq 5 and sporty Kia EV6 boasting rapid charging speeds.

A solid compact EV SUV with many refreshes just may make this ID.4 a leader in the pack. From upgrades inside and out, power and sophistication, this SUV is truly brand spankin’ new! Don’t hesitate to reserve yours today
