2025 Jetta Review
September 19 2024 - Volkswagen of Akron

A deep dive!

When it comes to the Jetta, starting at $23,220, there is much to celebrate. Clearly on a straight path since its debut, this vehicle is rooted in affordability and competence. A solid value across all trims, the standard Jetta boasts strengths all its own. That is made clear with its agile handling and more mature vibe, as well its power. That is provided by a carry-over 158-hp turbocharged inline-four engine that is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The base S is even noteworthy, featuring rain-sensing wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, dual-zone climate control and a wide array of safety features. Those include key ones like forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Fuel efficiency is also linked to the Jetta, making it a competent and worthy competitor in what is a dwindling compact sedan segment.

Looking at what’s new for 2025 is exciting! From a mildly refreshed fascia to new grille and headlamp designs, change is certainly in the air! Also available is a grille-spanning light bar option for the Sport trim and up, as well as a new trunk lid with a standard full-width lightbar connecting the taillamps.

There is a new 17-inch alloy design for the SE model and 18-inchers for the SEL. In terms of exterior color, two new colors are presented – Monterey Blue Pearl and Monument Gray, both with a premium, classy feel.

Within, updates abound, including a new dash design with a three-bar theme for the HVAC vents and the area in front of the passenger, and an 8-inch infotainment screen which now comes standard. There is also VW’s touch climate control panel, with SE models experiencing the joy of satellite radio, wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Jetta offers a very satisfying amount of front passenger head, shoulder and legroom, with a rear passenger compartment that is also reasonably roomy. A contemporary design overall is found within. The base model S features cloth upholstery, manually adjustable seats, door pockets and a deep center console bin. Higher trim levels see the addition of ambient interior lighting, wireless device charging and ventilated front seats.

Pricing for the new Jetta spans $23,220 to $30,225, with each trim level boasting features all their own. For example, the S model is attractive with its bargain price, while the Sport trim heading into 2025 gets cool black pattern-embossed molecular cloth seats. Also with the Sport Edition is a front anti-roll bar, VW’s brake-based limited-slip differential and standard 17-inch alloys. There are also heated front seats, stainless steel pedal trim, black window trim and mirror caps. A 60/40 folding rear seat is presented, with various higher-end options up the trim levels, including ventilated leather seating, remote start, sunroof, premium audio and more.

In the area of power, the 2025 Jetta features a carry-over turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder which makes 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed manual is now only available in the Jetta GLI. In recent testing, the SEL with its automatic, jumped from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds.

It is important to note that VW dropped the manual transmission option from non-GLI models, though the sportiest of Jettas remains with a stick for 2025.

Fuel efficiency is also found here, with the base S topping the scale with an EPA–estimated 31 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. Lower ratings are found with the Jetta Sport, SE and SEL trims, checking in with 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

Stay connected with ease with the Jetta, with the S, Sport and SE trims getting an 8-inch digital gauge cluster and the SEL a 10.3-inch fully customizable setup. Also standard is a 4-speaker audio system, although the SE bumps that to a six-speaker setup. Even higher, the SEL gets an eight–speaker Beats Audio rig.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard as are two USB-C ports, while VW’s Car-Net feature allows for gesture controls such as swiping and pinch-to-zoom.

Safety is at the forefront, even at the most base level, with the Jetta offering varied driver-assistance technology and upgraded equipment. That includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. For those desiring more information on the Jetta’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites. Drivers feel extra safe thanks to key features like standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking as well as standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Also available is adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology.

A nice warranty and maintenance coverage package is also presented, considered above average in the area of limited warranty yet below average in powertrain coverage. Complimentary maintenance helps sweeten the deal, and is covered for two years or 20,000 miles. The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles and a powertrain warranty, four years or 50,000.
