Exterior changes.
From the outside, the 2020 Passat takes on a bolder look thanks to LED lighting, a larger and more expressive grille and the coupe-styling roofline. The boxy side profile remains, but these changes will add to the lifespan of the vehicle. Other options on the 2020 model include 18- and 19-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, proximity key entry, push-button ignition, a hands-free opening trunk, a power-adjustable driver’s set, heated rear seats and a Fender Premium audio system. These features will filter throughout the Passat’s four available trim levels. The available Passat R-line steps up the bold and sportiness of past models and is suitable for even the most sophisticated driver.
Exterior changes also include Passat badging which is more prominent than ever with this head-turning vehicle.
Power packed
While the new model will continue to use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, upgraded transmission hardware and new software tuning unlock more low-end torque and result in quick and exciting performance. That has translated into up to 206 lb-ft of torque compared to 184 lb-ft in the outgoing model. As with the previous model, power reaches the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission and drivers will also benefit from the car’s six-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission system with paddle shifters for engaging manual shifting.
Interior redo
The new Passat will feature an interior enhanced with upgrades in the area of materials, an updated instrument panel and touchscreen display, as well as new color schemes. A wide range of upholstery choices include cloth, synthetic leather and genuine premium leather. A newly developed glass-covered infotainment touchscreen is among the changes, as well as fresh colors and a choice between three themes based on the trim level.
While the new Passat’s cabin is something familiar, with plenty of head and legroom for the driver and passengers, there are a few key changes that drivers are sure to notice. That content comes in the form of LED headlights, heated mirrors, larger wheels, a larger touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and satellite radio. Standard on the 2020 model is also forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. These were once just optional on the 2018 model. Other driver aids presented on upper trim levels include adaptive cruise control and a new automated parallel and perpendicular parking feature.
Equipment/safety galore!
As with most midsize sedans, the equipment is quite extensive and the same holds true for this 2020 Passat! This model includes everything from front/rear heated seats and dual-zone automatic climate control to remote start and electrically folding heated mirrors. Such features as automatic wipers and adaptive headlights with cornering are also available, as is a power driver’s seat along with a Fender sound system.
Technology in the area of safety is also plentiful! All Passat versions boast Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking wth Pedestrian Monitoring. There is also a Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert, present even on the base model, and the option of Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist and Park Assist. From touchscreen to push button, it’s all about relaxing and seeing where the day takes you. The technology of the new Passat is perfectly suited for people’s everyday full lifestyle!
