2021 VW ID.4 (Coming Soon)
The secret is out…..Volkswagen is all in when it comes to electric power! In fact, the new ID family of electric cars presented by Volkswagen is all the buzz, and there are clear reasons why! The ID.4, which began as the ID. Crozz concept vehicle, is a crossover that drives up to 310 miles between charges and boasts a style and shape that makes it one of the most desirable EVs out there. Second in a series of all-electric models, but the first to be sold in the United States, the ID.4 is a brand new nameplate for the Volkswagen brand. When it comes to this all-electric model in the all-new MEB-based Volkswagen ID family, there is much to be excited about! The secret is out!A look inside…While the interior has not yet been revealed, the ID.4 is expected to be less flashy than the ID Crozz Concept’s cabin, which featured a retractable steering wheel and sliding rear doors. The ID.4 will most likely include ample passenger and cargo space thanks to the advantages linked to EV packaging, which do not require intrusive elements such as a transmission tunnel. As a result, passengers will have plenty of space to stretch out as well as store their belongings. Interior controls will be almost all via touch-sensitive buttons and surfaces or via voice control. This is the wave of the future! Its style….The ID.4 embodies a confident and modern design and is truly the essence of the future. The ID.4 will be built on VW’s modular MEB electric drive platform, which gives it a long wheelbase. Not only does this give more room inside, but also results in a well-balanced weight distribution with a low center of gravity from storing the battery underneath the passengers. This vehicle, which will be shorter than the three-row Tiguan, will feature less pronounced front air vents and LED light bars that connect both the head and taillights. The body will get some curves, particularly around the rear doors and over the rear wheel wells, while the taillights expand into a full-width rear lighting panel. The design overall of this two-row crossover will follow a traditional shape.Under hood…First to launch with the ID.4 is a single-motor rear wheel drive model that delivers 205 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, while all-wheel drive models are planned for the future of the lineup. Its battery pack which comes in sizes 45, 58 and 77 kilowatt-hour will hold enough power to propel the SUV up to 310 miles between charges, which makes it a leader among other electric SUVs. While charging times have not yet been revealed, it is expected that the ID.4 will be presented with fast-charging capability. For example, the ID Crozz Concept can recover 80 percent of its charge in 30 minutes via a 150-kilowatt DC charger. The ID.4’s battery can send the concept to 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds.Connectivity/safety assured….It is expected that the concept will have such contemporary technology as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging. A large touchscreen and smartphone-enabled controls are also anticipated. While the 2021 ID.4 has not been crash tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it is expected that the electrified VW will be presented with a wide array of standard and optional driver-assistance technology. This could possibly include an autonomous drive mode called ID. Pilot. This relies on laser scanners and sensors that allow the concept to drive itself in traffic. Other key safety features most likely to be included are: standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist and available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode. Warranty specifics….An above-average limited warranty is linked to the VW ID.4 and below-average powertrain coverage compared with rival non-luxury brands. That being said, it offers two years or 20,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance. The ID.4’s electric components should be covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. More specifics are the following: a limited warranty that covers four years or 50,000 miles; powertrain warranty that covers 4 years or 50,000 miles; battery components that are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles and complimentary maintenance that is covered for 2 years o 20,000 miles.Soon to come….The VW ID.4 should be making its debut sometime this year in the United States, with deliveries expected by year’s end. Volkswagen plans to initially sell rear-wheel-drive versions of the ID.4 and all-wheel-drive crossovers would become available later. The ID.4 will be the first ID model available in North America, with production located at the Chattanooga, Tenn., plant. This will be truly a global model! It is uncertain the cost once this goes on sale, but estimates range in the $30,000 range, comparable to the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover. There is also a possibility that the final price includes applicable federal or state incentives if a lifetime gas savings was figured into the cost. More to expect…- The ID.4 will be slightly bigger than the ID.3.- It sits a little higher off the ground and has a sleeker body than the ID.3. - It will be available in two body versions (SUV and coupe-like style) - Production will start at the end of 2020 at the Chattanooga, Tenn., plant and possibly at other locations. It will be sold globallyWith an official debut in April, this crossover will effectively be an SUV version of the ID.3, with a more upright front grille design. It will offer an impressive driving range, with reduced CO2 emissions. It boasts a lounge-like interior and a fully digital dashboard. It is the look, feel and wave of the future.
